Hello friends, welcome to Gardening with Creekside! Today, we have some exciting projects going on, and we're going to take you behind the scenes to show you what's happening here at Creekside.
I'm standing in the construction zone for our new Proven Winners at Signature Garden. The final design is complete, and now we can begin the process of getting all the infrastructure in place and start thinking about planting trees, shrubs, and perennials this fall. It's incredibly exciting!
But before we dive into the garden details, let's talk about some other exciting developments. Our sweet potatoes have been hard at work preparing the production area in the Pines for all our shade-loving plants. I'll give you an update on that too.
First things first, Jerry is behind me in the Bobcat, clearing out a dead tree. We had a tulip poplar that was dead, and he made quick work of removing it. Now, let's get back to the Signature Garden.
The Proven Winners Signature Garden is going to be right here on the edge of the shrub lot. We'll have two elevated gardens and a more formal design beyond that. These elevated beds are part of the plan, and we're eager to get started.
Now, I'll show you a drawing of the garden's layout. These elevated beds, pathways, and triangular planting areas are all part of the design. While the garden will have a formal design with straight lines and hard angles, we'll still maintain our classic Creekside style of planting gorgeous plants together.
The inspiration for this formal design came from our visit to Spring Meadow, where we saw how a formal design could still feel warm and comfortable when you're in the garden. It's about the perspective, and we're applying that concept here.
Now, let's talk about the trees. We had three trees right in the middle of where our flower beds and walkways would be. Unfortunately, they had to go. We'll be planting lots of new trees, shrubs, and perennials in this area to make up for it. Don't worry; we love trees too, but sometimes they have to come out for the greater garden good.
We're also planning to revamp the pond. It's been here for over 15 years and serves an essential purpose in preventing flooding on the property. We'll be cleaning it up, adding new rocks, and embracing the natural beauty of this pond, which is home to various wildlife.
Now, let's head over to the Pines, where we've been making improvements for shade plant production. We cleared out an area last fall, installed irrigation, and today we're working on weed suppression. We have perennials like bleeding hearts, Solomon's Seal, hostas, and beautiful big leaf hydrangeas growing here. These plants are thriving, and once they bloom, they'll be ready for sale.
The shade in this area is ideal for these plants, even though the sun occasionally peeks through. Shade means getting four hours or less of sun, and these conditions are perfect for our shade-loving inventory.
Today has been a productive day, and we're feeling accomplished. We've mapped out the Signature Garden, cleared trees, and made progress in the Pines. It's been a great day to be outside, especially with the cooler, drier air.
Thank you for joining us on this journey at Creekside, and we'll keep you updated on all our exciting projects. Have a wonderful day, and see you in the next video! Goodbye, friends!
