Hello friends! Today on "Gardening with Creekside," we have some exciting developments regarding the construction of our proven winter signature garden here at Creekside Nursery. If you've been following us for a while, you know that we work closely with the folks at Proven Winners. Last spring, in 2022, the Proven Winners team approached us with the idea of creating a Proven Winners signature garden, and we were honored and thrilled to accept this opportunity.
A Proven Winners signature garden is essentially a garden that predominantly features plants from Proven Winners. While it often includes annuals, perennials, shrubs, and even trees, there's no specific size requirement. The design is entirely up to us, allowing us to decide whether it will be formal or informal. Today, we'd like to share our ideas for this project, focusing on plants that thrive in our Zone 7B climate here in North Carolina.
We have the privilege of choosing from a gorgeous selection of Proven Winners plants since we are growers and retailers of their products. We'll also collaborate with Proven Winners to source any specific plants we might need. Proven Winners signature gardens can be found across the country, including two in North Carolina in Pinehurst and Cherokee. They are open to the public, and you can visit them for free.
Now, let's discuss the development of the signature garden here at Creekside Nursery. Jerry and I are currently standing on our shrub lot, which will be transformed into the signature garden. We've already begun the construction process by removing the display gardens that previously occupied this space. The main entrance to the gardens will be in this area, featuring a beautiful walkway.
To address the natural water flow on our property, we've dug a French drain to keep the area dry. This will be complemented by a decorative dry creek bed with a lovely bridge and other architectural elements. We're also creating a raised bed to showcase various plantings, including Sprinter boxwoods, mass plantings of annuals like Supertunia Snow Drift, and a spectacular hedge of Incredible hydrangeas.
Throughout the garden, there will be easily accessible paths for visitors of all mobility levels. We plan to have garden beds showcasing trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals. In the center of the garden, we have a beautiful fountain from Unique Stone, which will be a highlight.
We've temporarily relocated the plants from the removed display gardens to a shaded area where they are "heeled in" for care until we reuse them. This way, we can save these plants for future use without having to pot them up immediately.
Our property offers a wide range of growing conditions, from full sun to full shade, dry areas to wet areas. We're excited to use these conditions to our advantage, especially in a wet area where we'll create a bog garden with plants that thrive in such conditions.
As for the timeline, we plan to debut the gardens in the fall of this year, with a grand showcase planned for the spring of 2024, featuring vibrant annuals.
We invite you to come and visit us at Creekside Nursery and explore the progress of the signature garden. We have pamphlets available at the nursery with more details about our garden project. Thank you for joining us on this exciting journey, and we hope you find it informative and inspiring. Have a great day, and we'll see you in the next video! Goodbye, friends!
