'Watermelon Ruffles' Hardy Hibiscus
Common Name: Rose Mallow
This spectacular Hardy Hibiscus produces enormous 7" magenta-pink flowers with heavily ruffled petals and uniquely puckered, notched edges that create incredible texture and visual appeal. The vibrant blooms are displayed against dark green foliage with a rich bronze cast, creating a striking contrast in the landscape. Unlike traditional hibiscus varieties, flowers develop along the length of the stems, resulting in more blooms earlier in the season and an extended period of color from midsummer into fall.
A North American native perennial, Hardy Hibiscus delivers a tropical look while remaining exceptionally cold hardy. Although it emerges later than many perennials in spring, it quickly takes center stage with vigorous growth and abundant flowering, making it a stunning focal point in sunny garden beds, borders, and pollinator gardens.
Why it’s a Creekside Champion™:
Its massive tropical-looking blooms, extended flowering season, and impressive garden presence make this Hardy Hibiscus an unforgettable addition to the landscape. Pollinators flock to its vibrant flowers, while its vigorous growth and reliable performance provide months of late-season color. Combining dramatic beauty with outstanding hardiness, this perennial brings the look of the tropics to gardens all the way to Zone 4, making it a dependable and rewarding garden favorite.
