When it comes to dependable structure and all-season greenery, Neatball™ Boxwood is a true standout—especially in colder climates where others may falter. This improved variety of ‘Green Velvet’ holds its deep green color beautifully through winter, resisting the bronzing and browning that can plague other boxwoods. Its dense, naturally rounded shape stays neat and compact, making it a perfect choice for the front of the border, low hedges, or even elegant containers.
Reaching just 2–3 feet tall and wide, Neatball is well-suited to both formal and relaxed garden styles. It thrives in full sun to full shade, and its exceptional hardiness (zone 4b–9) means it's built for long-term success across a wide range of climates. Maintenance is minimal—just a light prune in late spring if you’d like to shape it. Deer-resistant, evergreen, and easygoing… what more could a gardener ask for?
Why we love it:
-
Holds rich, dark green color through all seasons—no winter bronzing
-
Naturally globe-shaped and compact for low-maintenance structure
-
Thrives in sun or shade and resists deer
