Prairie Winds® 'Desert Plains' Fountain Grass

Prairie Winds® 'Desert Plains' Fountain Grass brings impressive size, texture, and seasonal color to sunny landscapes. Showy bottlebrush-shaped flower plumes emerge dusky purple in late summer before gradually aging to tan, creating a beautiful display above its upright, vase-shaped foliage.

Growing 36–48 inches tall and wide, 'Desert Plains' makes a striking focal point in the landscape. Its green foliage transforms as temperatures cool, developing rich shades of red, orange, and gold for exceptional fall color. The flowers and foliage remain attractive into winter, extending its interest well beyond the growing season. This variety is an improvement over older cultivars with a stronger habit, improved flowering performance, and enhanced fall color.

Easy to grow in full sun, 'Desert Plains' performs best in well-drained soil and can also be useful for erosion control. Its substantial size makes it especially beautiful as a specimen, in mass plantings, or incorporated into mixed borders and landscapes.
