Dicentra spectabilis ‘Alba’ (Old-Fashioned Bleeding Heart)
Dicentra spectabilis ‘Alba’, the elegant white form of the classic Bleeding Heart, brings timeless charm to shade and woodland gardens. Its fresh, light green foliage forms graceful, arching clumps, beautifully setting the stage for the pristine, heart-shaped flowers that dangle along leafless stems in late spring. These long, pendant blooms are striking in the landscape and beloved as cut flowers, lasting up to two weeks in a vase.
In cooler climates with consistent moisture, the bloom period may extend into early summer. Like traditional Bleeding Hearts, ‘Alba’ typically goes dormant after flowering, though steady spring moisture can delay dormancy until later in the season. Perfect for adding soft texture and romantic appeal to shaded borders, cottage gardens, or woodland plantings, this dependable perennial is also deer resistant and attracts hummingbirds and bees.
Why it’s a Creekside Champion™:
Chosen for its graceful habit, pure white blooms, and reliable performance in shade gardens, Dicentra spectabilis ‘Alba’ is low-maintenance, pollinator-friendly, and exceptionally long-lived. Its classic beauty and dependable spring display make it a standout favorite.
